A Buttock Soft Tissue Tumor and Sciatica: Another Clinical Utility of Ultrasound-Guided Diagnosis Block

چکیده
Sciatica is a symptom rather than a specific diagnosis. It usually consists in a radiating leg pain from the buttock toward the knee, ankle, foot and toes. Pain could be associated with neurological deficit, such as muscle weakness and reflex deficit. The prevalence of sciatica in spine pathology is highly variable with values ranging from 1.6% to 43%. Between 70%-90% of the cases of herniated disc with nerve-root compression caused sciatica. Other causes are lumbar canal or foraminal stenosis, tumours or cysts. We present a case evaluated in our Pain Unit with left-sided sciatic pain after an intense voluntary movement two months ago. He was previously pharmacologically treated for a non-specific low back pain with pseudo-sciatica. One week later buttock soft tissues sarcoma was diagnosed. He deceased two weeks after the diagnosis. Bone and soft tissue tumors presenting as sciatic notch dumbbell masses: A critical differential diagnosis of sciatica
AIM To study the clinical findings and characteristic features in sciatic notch dumbbell tumors (SNDTs). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the clinical outcomes and characteristic features of consecutive cases of SNDTs (n = 8). RESULTS Buttock masses occurred in three patients with SNDT (37.5%). Severe buttock tenderness and pain at rest were observed in seven patients with SNDTs (87.5%)....
متن کاملPET and MRI-guided focused ultrasound surgery for hypoxic-tissue ablation combined with radiotherapy in solid tumors
Background: The rationale was to develop an ablation approach to destroy regions of tumor resistant to radiation and thus reduce the time required for whole tumor ablation, while improving overall tumor control after radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: The system is composed of a micro positron emission tomography (mPET), 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and a customized MRI-compatible foc...
متن کاملEvaluation of Soft Tissue Tumors by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Its Correlation with Histopathology: A Retrospective Study in a Tertiary Care Center
Background and objectives: Soft tissue is a non-epithelial extraskeletal tissue of the body. Soft tissue tumors (STTs) are the most commonly diagnosed neoplasms. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is minimally invasive, quick, and a definitive diagnostic modality. Biopsy for histopathology is the gold standard method for diagnosis but is invasive. The aims of this study were to determine th...
متن کاملThe Effects of Ultrasound-guided and Anatomic landmark-based Superficial Cervical Plexus Block on Post-operative Pain Intensity in Thyroidectomy Patients: A Clinical Trial
Background and Objective: Pain is one of the most common complications after thyroidectomy. Opioid administration can overcome this complication, however, it has some side effects, including nausea and vomiting. So, the use of local anesthetic instead of opioids is a good alternative. This study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effect of ultrasound-guided superficial cervical plexus bl...
